Better Than Must See TV

Yesterday I witnessed a conservative friend, armed with an arsenal of facts, break down the carefully constructed wall a liberal friend had built up about the Hurricane Katrina disaster 5 years ago. It was better than must see TV to see the eyes of this liberal opened to all the facts, and realize that, maybe it wasn't all Bush's fault as the media would have us believe. Not that the Feds didn't have issues mind you, but there were a series of events that went wrong before the Feds could do anything that made their job next to impossible. Now, in fairness to my liberal friend, many of the facts this conservative had weren't widely available. He knew them because he has family in Louisiana and heard first hand how everything went so wrong.

This was an eye opening experience for me too. I have often told people that if I can't blog about it in 20 minutes, it's not worth writing...I don't do research. This is because I'm a busy guy, I've got better things to do than spend 2 hours a night on the Internet digging into all the nooks and crannies of the issues. I also usually just make fun of liberals rather than debate them because if I debate them, I end up feeling like I'm talking to a wall of left wing media talking points. And, I end up super frustrated. But, maybe armed with an arsenal of facts, I could change a liberals mind? Maybe I do need to do more research on certain topics to help our liberal friends understand where the left wing media is leading them astray. If I could help just one liberal see the light, it would all be worth it. This might be a turning point for me. Only time will tell.

Double Trouble

This week, I have multiple criticisms of our President, but I'm going to narrow it to 2 main criticisms because I think these issues trump everything else he's screwed up recently.

Greece - Well, actually most of Europe. Once Greece implodes, Spain and Portugal are next. Since it's clear to anyone who has not drunk the Obama Kool-Aid that he is trying to convert the United States into a Western European-like Socialist country with cradle to grave health care and a huge government sector, I think Obama owes us an explanation of why we won't implode like Greece is imploding. Why should we believe this will turn out any different here than it did everywhere else it's been tried? In fact, with 300 million people, I would argue that our demise will be faster and more severe than Greece, Spain or Portugal, if Obama continues to take us down this road.

I'm sure he would say, "Uhhh, we're gonna learn from this, and uhhh, we're not going to make the same mistakes. And, uhhh, if we do, it's only because I was left a mess by the previous administration."

Look, all out socialism is a bad idea and what is happening in Europe is proof of that. We were headed down the Socialist path long before Obama was elected President, but he decided to hit the accelerator. I firmly believe that Obama will be a 1 term President, and whoever is elected in 2012 will have to make really difficult decisions that will forever alter our entitlement programs, our defense spending programs and our tax structure. In fact, the decisions will be so difficult and hard to swallow, that whoever is elected in 2012 will likely be a 1 term President as well, because when the free money stops, people are going to be upset.

Health Care - Today, news came out that four major companies have, internally, discussed dropping their health care plans and paying the Government fine. These companies haven't yet dropped their health care, but eventually someone will. I believe I said on this blog that this would happen once health care reform went through. The fine is less than it costs to provide health insurance, so it makes business sense to do this. Basically, the more people learn about this mess of a bill, the worse it is for the people.

Of course, as Obama and the Democrats were ramming this down the throats of the American people, Obama said multiple times that if you like your health care, you can keep it. That was a load of manure and he knew it when he said it. The man stated on the campaign trail that he wanted a single payer system. This current health care plan is nothing but a smoke screen first step to a single payer universal health care system, which has been the plan all along.

Yes we were lied to, again, by this administration. But why should we be surprised...that's what Liberal/Socialists have to do to push their agenda through. They can't be truthful about who they are or what they want to do because they'd be marginalized faster than you can say Aunt Jemima! (I don't know why I said that...I just think it's funny.)

Don't Tase Me!

Last night at a Philadelphia Phillies game, a 17 year old ran onto the field during the game. Security chased him for a while, and then a police officer pulled his taser and tased the guy. He went down like a ton of bricks and was taken off the field.

All day today the sports media has been debating about whether tasing was too extreme. Most former athletes have come down on the side that tasing is ok, because you can never tell the intent of someone running onto the field. Most of the people who do this have had way too much to drink and are just being idiots. But it only takes one guy to hurt a player.

This kid apparently asked his dad for permission before he went out there. His dad told him it was a bad idea and he did it anyway. What's the lesson here...always listen to your parents or you might get tased!

Look, if you are going to be stupid and run on the field, you deserve whatever comes to you. These are world class athletes out there...if one of them wanted to they could seriously hurt anyone that runs on the field. In baseball, most of the guys have quick access to a bat! I have absolutely no problem with this kid getting tased. Maybe it will deter people in the future. Though, probably not, as another fan ran on the field in Philadelphia today. He was not tasered...he probably ran out there with the intent to get tasered than rethought it and gave himself up.

Movie Review: Inglorious Basterds

Yes, I watched "Inglorious Basterds" and yes this is a G/PG blog, so that's the last time I'm going to say that word. I watched this movie on Saturday night and it took me until today to decide that I really liked it. It's a 4 star movie....maybe trending towards a 3.8.

I usually don't like films like this...it was kind of all over the place, and in true Quentin Tarantino fashion, it was very bloody. However, there's enough dark humor, especially from Brad Pitt's character, that it kept me going through the especially violent parts.

I'm going to keep this review short. If you are a Tarantino fan or a Brad Pitt fan, I think you'll like this movie. Otherwise, stay away.
